Ragazzi’s Liam Lowitz featured in Chichester Psalms with Stanford Symphonic Chorus

Ragazzi Concert Group member Liam Lowitz has been chosen to sing the featured solo in an upcoming performance of Leonard Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms, presented by the Stanford Symphonic Chorus and Peninsula Symphony on Friday, Nov. 22 and Sunday, Nov. 24.

Composed in 1965, the Chichester Psalms is a work in three movements, each movement based on the text of a complete Psalm, paired with the excerpt of another Psalm, all sung in Hebrew.  The boy soprano solo is featured in movement two, a musical interpretation of Psalm 23, with Psalm 2. This work combines Hebrew with the Christian choral tradition, affecting what the official Leonard Bernstein website calls an implicit “plea for peace in Israel during a turbulent time in the young country’s history.”
